Pet Adoption

Finding your new best friend

Whether you are looking for a kitty or a doggy, you can find your new friend locally. Through pet adoption, you can save an animal from having to be put down from lack of space. There are many different options when you are looking into adopting a pet. You can stop in your local animal shelter or humane society. If you aren’t sure where to go, then you can always do a search online. There is a list of some online places you can search for your future pet:

Animal Shelter: http://www.animalshelter.org/ : This website not only allows you to search for a pet online using its pet search option, it also allows you to specifically search your local animal shelters. If you are looking for something other than a dog or cat, don’t worry they have search options for different kinds of pets. This site also has a pet supplies store, where some purchases count toward donations.

Pet Finder: http://www.petfinder.com/index.html : This website offers you information on the process of adopting a new pet, what you should think about before you adopt, and even what you might expect after your adoption. Their pet search allows you to search by pet type, the breed, and location via zip code. You can also search for the shelters around you. This site also lists community events happening near you.

Pet Adoption: http://www.adoptapet.com/ : This site has the option to search for cats, dogs, and other animals. They also have a search option for finding your local shelters or rescue center. The site also has a place where you can find out more on how to get involved and provide help for animals in need.

Craigslist: www.craigslist.org under the community section you can find PETS: Craigslist is a great place to go to find almost anything locally to you. Whether you are looking for a free animal or one with an adoption fee, you can find it here. There is a section just for PETS listed under COMMUNITY, however, there is also a FREE section listed in the FOR SALE area. No animals can be sold for profit on Craigslist. But a small rehoming fee can be applied to any animal adoption. Craigslist is a good place to check if you don’t have time to head over to your local shelter or rescue group.

When adopting a new animal you need to be 100% positive that the animal is going to be what you want in three months after the puppy has eaten your couch. It something that needs to be thought over and all the angles considered. Happy pet finding!
