The best animal welfare sites are not always what people think they are. Someone who does not know the connection of the Animal Liberation Front to the eco-terrorist group, the Earth Liberation Front may think that their website is a worthwhile source of information. Sometimes Animal right’s activists are not always the best source for information on these trends. People with good intentions often get bogged down by politics.
The SPCA
ASPCA Website
The society for the prevention of cruelty to animals is not an animal right’s group. It provides shelters for stray animals and lets people adopt pets. It does, sadly, euthanize many of the animals it receives because it does not have enough space for them. Users can find information on how to take care of their pets, services in their area and other items.
PETA
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
PETA hs becoming increasingly hard for comedians to parody in recent years. The ideas that they spout have often become so ridiculous that the comedy writers cannot find better ways to mock the group than the group has already done. Even though PETA gets bogged down with politics, its site does contain information on the humane treatment of farm animals. Some people in the group go too far.
Mostly Mutts
Mostly Mutts
Mostly Mutts is a small, no-kill animal shelter in Central Pennsylvania. It rests in Herndon, just below a region known as the Susquehanna Valley. It, and many other animal shelters give pets a place to stay until someone else can adopt them. The staff make sure that dogs go to a good home. Many animals who stay at the shelter will make sure the dogs go to a good home. This does mean that people occasionally get turned down. Similar animal shelters probably exist in your area.
The National Anti-vivisection Society
NAVS Web Page
The National Anti-vivisection society is a limited interest group opposed to experimentation on animals. More specifically, it is opposed to surgery performed on live animals when the surgery performs no specific purpose. Few people have any idea what the society actually does, which the group has made fun of in its own Public Service Announcements.
